PINS Pet Festival
Downtown Brandenburg Amphitheater
September 28, 2002

PINS held a Pet Festival in the Amphitheater down by the river. It was a beautiful fall day and it was hard to tell who had more fun, the pets or their owners! The day started with a dog/animal walk at Buttermilk Falls. There was entertainment by the East-to-West Gospel Group. Father Phillip from St. John's performed a blessing of the animals. PINS' Claudia Cooper gave a dog obedience training demonstration and the highlight was ... a series of animal contests.

When PINS held their 2d Annual Pet Festival the weather started out looking ominous, but it soon cleared up and turned into a beautiful day. We had participants from Meade, Hardin, Harrison, and Breckenridge counties. The event started with a dog/animal walk at Buttermilk Falls. There was entertainment by the East-to-West Gospel Group. The Good News Farm Animal Exhibit and Petting Zoo was enjoyed by all. Reverend Jarrod Hunt from West Point performed the Blessing Service. There were also some obedience exhibits and a whole bunch of fun contests.

Pets In Need Society (PINS) of Meade County held their 3rd annual Pet Festival on October 16th at the Brandenburg Flippins Run Park. Despite cool and windy conditions compared to previous years, the PINS Pet Festival was a huge success! Attendance continues to grow and it's estimated that this year's event attracted more than 200 people from Meade County and surrounding communities.

Animals and their owners participated in events such as the annual Buttermilk Falls Walk and contests such as the Most Unusual Pet, Best Pet Trick and Best Frisbee Catch. They also enjoyed the Good News Farm petting zoo, the Ekron Baptist Church Puppet Show, and great food prepared by Boy Scout Troop #95.

Highlight of the day was the Blessing of the Animals Service by Rev. Jarrod Hunt, pastor of both the City Road Chapel United Methodist Church and West Point United Methodist Church. In addition to the prayers in unison, Reverend Hunt provided a blessing to individual animals.

PINS conducted their annual raffle, a drawing for more than $2000 in prizes. The Grand Prize, a beautiful handmade clock donated by DL Sumners of Ekron, was won by Bev Sadler of Mount Washington.

Special thanks go to our Pet Festival sponsors and raffle donors. Their support, the support of those in attendance and of all the PINS volunteers made the 2004 Pet Festival a huge success.

The perfect weather encouraged nearly 200 people to attend the 5th Annual Pet Festival and Blessing of the Animals. Dozens of pets and their owners dressed up in '50s fashions to compete for prizes.

Oscar the cat was truly "King" of the Pet Festival as he walked calmly around on a leash and competed in many of the contests.

A new, and extremely well received attraction at this year's Pet Festival was Latifa Meena - an animal communicator. She enjoyed the festival so much that she has asked to return next year. Learn more about Latifa and her ability to communicate with animals by visiting her website at www.animalscantalk.com.

No Fabulous '50s celebration is complete unless Elvis is sighted. Elvis (aka Pat Scott) and his dog "Rusty" were one of many who received a special blessing from Rev. Janet Conrad, associate pastor of the Brandenburg United Methodist Church.
