PINS Roads Cleanup
March & April, 2006 PINS participated in the Meade County Litter Abatement program. Non-profit, church, school and civic groups did roadside cleanup for $100 per mile. With help from the cadets at the Bluegrass ChalleNGe Academy at Fort Knox, PINS cleaned up 10.2 miles of roadway and earned $1,020. Almost 30 volunteers participated, and at the end of the first day Rose Welch had a generous meal waiting at her home for the workers. 5K Run Your Tail Off
May, 2006 In 2006, nearly 80 people and their dogs participated. The run was again organized by Heather Mann and Linda Elsey, and sponsored by local small businesses as well as individuals in memory of beloved pets and departed family members who were animal lovers. |
PINS Pet Festival
September 16th, 2006 Downtown Brandenburg at the Gazebo by the River The perfect weather encouraged nearly 200 people to attend the 5th Annual Pet Festival and Blessing of the Animals. Dozens of pets and their owners dressed up in '50s fashions to compete for prizes. Oscar the cat was truly "King" of the Pet Festival as he walked calmly around on a leash and competed in many of the contests. A new, and extremely well received attraction at this year's Pet Festival was Latifa Meena - an animal communicator. She enjoyed the festival so much that she has asked to return next year. Learn more about Latifa and her ability to communicate with animals by visiting her website at www.animalscantalk.com. No Fabulous '50s celebration is complete unless Elvis is sighted. Elvis (aka Pat Scott) and his dog "Rusty" were one of many who received a special blessing from Rev. Janet Conrad, associate pastor of the Brandenburg United Methodist Church. PINS 7th Annual Wreath Festival
December 3-8, 2006 Meade County Courthouse PINS welcomed the public to a 'Beary Merry Christmas' in the Meade County Court House. Entrance to the Courthouse was decorated with a polar bear sitting on top of an igloo, designed and created by workers at the Meade County Solid Waste and Recycling Center. Popular items were Kitchen Angel Towels and Lighted Blocks. |
